Myths and legends from the life of American frontiersman Davey Crockett are portrayed in this a 1955 Walt Disney adventure film edited from three television episodes. Crockett and his friend George Russell fight in the Creek Indian War. Russell is ambushed but Crockett challenges the tribe's chief to a tomahawk duel. The chief will sign the American peace treaty if Crockett wins. They encounter a man forcing people from their land, then reselling it. Crockett becomes the magistrate for the area and arrests the criminal. Crockett then runs for the state legislature, is elected and becomes a friend of Andrew Jackson. Crockett makes an emotional speech against a bill appropriating Indian lands and costing him his political career. Crockett joins the embattled Texans at the Alamo. The defense force holds out against the Mexican attacks until being finally overrun. Crockett continues to fight on alone.
