In Westward Ho the Wagons, a group of settlers tries to make it west to Oregon Territory. They survive hardships and raids by hostile Pawnees, but begin to lose hope after the Pawnees chase away their spare horses. While stopping at Fort Laramie, to pick up supplies and decide what to do next, the children from the wagon train make friends with the Sioux children staying there. When the Sioux chief's son has an accident and is seriously injured, Doc Grayson, leader of the wagon train, helps heal him. The grateful chief sends Sioux warriors to escort the train through to Oregon Territory.
