Deadly Companion is a psychological thriller movie released in 1980. The movie tells the story of a young couple named Nancy and Ray who go on a camping trip in the mountains with their friend David. After a fight between Nancy and Ray, David leaves the couple alone in the wilderness. The next day, Nancy wakes up to find Ray brutally murdered next to their tent. She runs for help and is picked up by a truck driver who takes her to the nearest town. There, she meets David, who convinces her to come and stay with him while the police investigate Ray's murder.
As Nancy tries to come to terms with her loss, she discovers that David is not who he seems to be. He is controlling and possessive, and he seems to have an unhealthy interest in her. He even tells her that he was in love with her before she married Ray.
As the investigation into Ray's death continues, the police begin to suspect that David may have had something to do with it. Nancy is torn between her loyalty to her husband's memory and her growing affection for David.
The tension builds as David's behavior becomes more erratic and dangerous. Nancy realizes that she is in grave danger, but she can't bring herself to leave David. Instead, she tries to uncover his secrets and find out the truth about Ray's murder.
The movie is directed by George Mendeluk and stars Michael Sarrazin as David, Susan Clark as Nancy, and Anthony Perkins as the sheriff investigating Ray's death. The performances are all top-notch, with Sarrazin in particular delivering a chilling portrayal of a man with a dark and twisted soul.
The movie is shot in beautiful mountain locations, which add to the atmosphere of isolation and danger. The score, composed by Harry Manfredini, adds to the tension and keeps the audience on edge throughout.
Deadly Companion is a gripping thriller that keeps the audience guessing until the very end. The twists and turns of the plot will keep you on the edge of your seat, and the performances are outstanding. It's definitely worth a watch for anyone who loves a good psychological thriller.
