"It's a hilarious coast-to-coast, 180 mile-an-hour, go-for-broke, outrageous road race with the world's most expensive cars. And it's all just for glory and a gumball machine."

Inspired by the real life Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash headed by Brock Yates, The Gumball Rally is a comedic romp through the running of an illegal (and therefore secret) coast to coast road race starring Michael Sarrazin, Norman Burton, Raul Julia and Gary Busey. The race is started by Michael Bannon (Sarrazin), a bored and extremely rich candy manufacturer who, with the help of his other car enthusiasts decide to run an unofficial race across the country using the code word "Gumball." The only rules: no catalytic converters and no 55 mph speed limits; whoever can make the run in the shortest time wins. However they are hounded by an LAPD Lieutenant, Roscoe (Burton), who finds out about the race and is determined to prove they are running an illegal race and stop them. Chaos and hilarity ensues throughout the run of the race ending at the majestic Queen Mary ocean liner in Long Beach, California.
