Philippe Dubaye, a deputy member of the French parliament wakes his businessman friend Xavier Marechal with disturbing news; he has just killed Serrano, the racketeer and blackmailer. Serrano kept a notebook with proofs of corruption by influential personalities, powerful businessmen and many members of government and he had threatened to use his information against Philippe. Xavier agrees to cover for Philippe, but finds that nobody believes the alibi. Everyone implicated wants the notebook. Only Philippe knows where it is hidden and he tells Xavier, who becomes the object of a manhunt by henchmen of the desperate men who want it.
