Death On The Fourposter is a gripping thriller directed by Birger Larsen in 1964. The movie stars John Drew Barrymore as Andrea Artusi, Gloria Milland as his wife Floriana, and Luisa Rivelli as Livia, the maid. Set in the beautiful Italian countryside, the story revolves around a wealthy couple, Andrea and Floriana. They are celebrating their second wedding anniversary at their luxurious villa. However, their marital bliss soon turns into a nightmare when they discover that someone has murdered their friend and house guest, a wealthy British financier.

The police arrive on the scene and begin their investigation, and soon the suspicion falls on Andrea himself. The murder weapon is a knife from Andrea's collection, and he is the last person to have seen the victim alive. In addition, there is a history of bad blood between the two men.

The tension in the film builds as additional evidence emerges, further pointing towards Andrea's guilt. Floriana, however, believes in her husband's innocence, and sets out to find the real killer. To do so, she enlists the help of the maid Livia, who reveals some hidden secrets of her own, adding further twists and turns to the plot.

The film is a classic whodunit, with multiple suspects and red herrings, that keeps the audience guessing until the very end. The beautiful cinematography and the stunning surroundings of the Italian countryside serve as a backdrop to the film, adding to the intrigue.

The performances by the three leads are excellent, with John Drew Barrymore delivering a nuanced portrayal of a man who is fighting to prove his innocence. Gloria Milland is brilliant as the devoted wife, who refuses to give up on her husband, and Luisa Rivelli brings a great deal of depth to her role as the loyal servant, who is willing to risk everything to help her employers.

The direction by Birger Larsen is impeccable, as he manages to build the suspense and keep the audience engaged throughout the film. The screenplay, written by Gastone Ramazzotti and Giorgio Stegani, is well-crafted, with enough twists and turns to keep the audience on the edge of their seats.

Overall, Death On The Fourposter is a captivating thriller that stands the test of time. With strong performances, stunning visuals, and a gripping storyline, it is a must-see for fans of the genre.
