Doonby is a 2013 drama-thriller film directed by Peter Mackenzie and written by Chuck Powers. This independent film stars John Schneider, Jenn Gotzon, Ernie Hudson, and Will Wallace in the lead roles. The movie revolves around Sam Doonby (John Schneider), a handsome and mysterious drifter who arrives in the small Texas town of Smithville, where he instantly becomes the talk of the town.

At first glance, Sam seems like a charming and charismatic person, who lifts the spirits of everyone he meets with his wit, humor, and kindness. He soon finds work at a local bar and is welcomed into the community. However, his exuberant behavior and interesting stories of his past experiences mask his true motives, puzzling those around him.

The town's people, including the bar owner, Doc (Ernie Hudson), his wife, Ann (Jenn Gotzon), and their son, Duke (Joe Estevez) all soon begin to wonder who Sam really is, where he comes from, and what his true intentions are in their small town. Sam seems to have a talent for helping everyone who crosses his path, including hurting women, lonely drunks, and even the town's homeless. However, as Sam begins to forge stronger relationships with the people of Smithville, his past begins to catch up with him.

As the story unfolds, Doonby takes the audience on a thrilling journey of suspense, betrayal, and redemption. The twists and turns of the plot are unexpected, keeping you glued to your screen throughout the film. The gradual reveal of Sam's life story is creatively crafted, with each twist adding more suspense and tension to the movie.

John Schneider's portrayal of Sam Doonby is particularly noteworthy, as he brings a unique mix of charm and enigma to the character. The way he carries himself, his coy smile, and his piercing blue eyes make him a perfect fit for the role of the charismatic drifter.

Jenn Gotzon, who plays Ann Doc, delivers a strong and convincing performance as the town's compassionate nurse. Her ability to convincingly portray a character torn between her curiosity about Sam and her sense of caution sets the tone for the rest of the film.

Ernie Hudson also delivers a standout performance as Doc, the bar owner who befriends Sam. Hudson's portrayal of the aging small-town businessman who is dealing with his own personal struggles is gripping, and adds depth to the film's plot.

Overall, Doonby is an excellent independent film that will keep you engaged from start to finish. It's a unique story with unexpected twists, an intriguing plot, and a fantastic cast. It's a must-watch for fans of independent cinema, as well as those who appreciate well-crafted suspense-thriller films. Nevertheless, Doonby could have had more character development, but it’s pretty good for what it is.
