Dying Embers is a 2018 thriller movie revolving around four individuals who plan to loot $5 million worth of diamonds. The movie is directed by Emir Skalonja and stars Michelina Houlihan, Lori Dolan Meyer, and Jesse Huntz. The movie is a collaboration between two production companies named Montelera Picture Company and S & C Films. The movie commences with a bank robbery executed by our four main characters: a rich construction company owner named Marc (played by Jaren Mitchell), his girlfriend Leah (played by Michelina Houlihan), a former detective named Frank (played by Jesse Huntz), and his girlfriend Sharon (played by Lori Dolan Meyer). The group successfully loots the bank but ultimately caught by the authorities. However, before getting caught, their bounty, a safe deposit box containing $5 million worth of diamonds, goes missing.

The movie then moves forward six months, to Somalia, where the main characters arrive in search of someone. Cut to a desolate beach, where we see Sharon and Frank are now the only characters left, standing among the sand dunes, holding a small lockbox. As Frank and Sharon converse, it becomes apparent that there are many loose ends to tie up; Leah has returned, and someone is now after them for the diamonds they stole.

The intensity of the movie significantly rises as the plot unfolds. The group of four initially planned to distribute the money equally, but as the movie progresses, their greed becomes more palpable. With incredible performances by each of the actors, their relationships begin to break down, and the distrust between the four becomes more and more perceptible. The setting of the movie is successfully created that casts a spell of uncertainty and fear that pervades the plot. Set in an abandoned Somali concrete-building market, the only light source is the fire of burning debris on the floor. The darkness is offset with light glimmers of projectiles fired by an incoming enemy.

The movie's plot is well crafted and keeps the audience interested. There are several plot twists that keep the audience guessing and engaged. The script is clever and well written, with sharp dialogue that serves to create tension as the plot unfolds.

Additionally, the movie uses cinematography and sound design to create a haunting ambiance. As the plot speedily moves, the camera ranges from close-ups to wide-angle shots, conveying the vastness and emptiness of the location. The sound design, perhaps the most effective element of the movie, creates a sense of dread and tension through its haunting, atmospheric quality.

The characters are also well-etched, and the actors have delivered fabulous performances. Each of them brings their character to life, and the movie excels in giving them a well-rounded backdrop against which their characters develop.

In conclusion, Dying Embers is a must-watch for those who love thrillers. The film takes the audience on a rollercoaster ride of suspense, mystery, and action that keeps them hooked until the end. With solid performances by the cast, excellent cinematography and sound design, and a gripping storyline, Dying Embers is a movie that will leave you engrossed from start to finish.
