Eddie’s normal life, with his wife Barbara and their daughter, changes when ruthless studio executive Sam Campbell transfers Eddie from his comfortable job to the Splatter & Gore Department and sends him to his quiet country home to finish the fifth movie in the highly-profitable “Loose Limbs” series. While editing violent scene after violent scene, Eddie starts to go insane.
Faced with demons, a monster in the refrigerator, food that suddenly appears to be severed limbs, a gore-drenched hospital scene, and other horrors, Eddie cuts his way through “Loose Limbs.” He soon faces the wrath of Campbell who discovers Eddie has removed the goriest scenes from the film, even though Eddie did it to make the movie more marketable to other countries. At the height of Eddie’s madness, everyone within reach is in danger, even his family, coworkers, and the warehouse guy. The SWAT team is called in after Eddie takes coworker Nick’s girlfriend hostage. Faced with bloody violence, a volatile boss, and his own insanity, Eddie still has to finish the film.
Directed by Swedish horror filmmaker Anders Jacobsson, “Evil Ed” is homage to countless Hollywood B-movie splatter classics. The movie's excessive gore also satirizes Sweden's then-strict film censoring regulations (the censoring bureau disbanded in 2011). The movie stars Johan Rudebeck as Eddie, Olof Rhodin as Sam Campbell, Per Löfberg as Nick, Cecilia Ljung as Barbara, and director Anders Jacobsson as a man driving a car. That’s notable because Eddie hits the hood of the car with the severed head of a crack addict.
