Eye of the Beast is a 2007 horror-thriller movie starring James Van Der Beek, Alexandra Castillo, and Arne MacPherson. The movie is set on a small island in the Atlantic Ocean where a group of researchers and locals are trapped and stalked by a giant sea monster that has been awakened by seismic activity caused by the prospecting for oil. The film is directed by Gary Yates and premiered on the Sci-Fi Channel on October 13, 2007.

The movie revolves around Dan Leland (James Van Der Beek), a geologist who is sent to an isolated island off the coast of Nova Scotia to conduct seismic tests. The tests are being carried out to determine whether it is feasible to drill for oil on the island. Dan soon discovers that the island is not as uninhabited as he had been led to believe. A small community of people live on the island, including a sea captain named John, his daughter, and grandson, and a group of researchers led by Dr. Karen Adams (Alexandra Castillo).

As Dan and his team begin their seismic tests, they unknowingly awaken a long-dormant sea monster. The creature, a giant octopus with multiple tentacles, begins to terrorize the islanders, attacking their boats, and dragging people into the ocean. Dan and Karen team up to find a way to stop the monster before it kills everyone on the island. Meanwhile, the local villagers believe that the monster is a vengeful spirit, the Eye of the Beast, that has been awakened by the intrusion of the outsiders.

The tension builds as the monster continues to attack, and the group struggles to find a way to defeat it. Along the way, they discover that the monster may have supernatural properties, and the islanders' belief in the Eye of the Beast may be more than just a legend.

The performances of the cast are decent, but nothing exceptional. James Van Der Beek delivers a solid performance as Dan, the hero of the film. Alexandra Castillo is also good as the scientist Karen, who is trying to understand the creature's behavior.

The real star of Eye of the Beast is, of course, the monster. The special effects are well done, and the octopus looks convincing and menacing. The scenes of the creature attacking boats and dragging victims into the ocean are genuinely frightening and suspenseful.

The movie also has a strong environmental message, with the theme of drilling for oil in a fragile ecosystem and the potential consequences that can have. This theme is woven into the plot without feeling preachy or heavy-handed.

Overall, Eye of the Beast is a solid horror-thriller that delivers suspense and scares, with a well-designed monster and a compelling storyline. It may not be a classic of the genre, but it is an entertaining and enjoyable movie that will satisfy horror fans.

Eye of the Beast is a 2007 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 30 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.3.
