The movie Felon takes a look at the dark underside of the American justice system. This drama about how an average loving family man, living the American dream, was transitioned into an incarcerated felony repeat offender. Based on the notorious events of the 1990s at California State Prison, Corcoran. Wade Porter (Stephen Dorff) was living the American dream until a late night burglary derailed his life and set in motion a horrendous and dehumanizing chain of events. While protecting his family during a burglary, Porter accidentally kills the intruder and is convicted of involuntary manslaughter. Prior to this horrific event, Porter had been living with his girlfriend (Marisol Nichols) and their son Michael. He was planning on expanding his business and looking forward to their pending engagement. They had a nice suburban home and had high hopes for the future. The events of that night were not so cut and dry to authorities as Wade would have preferred. Due to the fact that the burglar was already outside the home and fleeing, his defense attorney has a hard time justifying his actions and he ends up being sentenced to 3 years in state prison. Before he even makes it to prison a fatal incident on the transport bus draws him into the deadly underside of prison life, seemingly with no possibility of escape. To make matters worse he has been sent to the Security Housing Unit at Corcoran State prison under the corrupt and disturbed command of Lieutenant Jackson (Harold Perrineau). The kind of maximum security facility where the normal rules of society no longer apply on the inside. Enter John Smith (Val Kilmer), a notorious murderer transferred to Corcoran after inciting a riot at his previous location
