Officer down is a crime drama starring Stephen Dorff. The film, which is set in Bridgeport, Connecticut, was directed by Brian A. Miller, written by John Chase and is based on a true story. In the film, Detective David "Cal" Callahan is a loner, a raging alcoholic and a police detective. Callahan has problems in his professional and personal life including a rocky relationship with his wife, and teenage daughter. In all appearance, Detective Callahan is a good cop with a clean professional record. Due to his personality, no one wants to work with him, so he does not have a partner. However, Callahan also has dark secrets, and a personal vendetta against rapists. It is later revealed that Callahan's squeaky clean record isn't as spotless as one would imagine. In fact, the alcoholic police detective was once a very crooked cop who made terrible decisions. Fortunately, through hard work and the support of those closest to him, he was able to turn his career around. However, Callahan soon realizes that staying on the straight and arrow is more difficult than he imagined, especially when he still has connections to extremely dangerous people in Bridgeport. Despite his best efforts to be a good, honest cop, Callahan gets dragged into case after case that makes him question whether being a corrupt cop is actually easier than being a good cop. Finally, Callahan is faced with a situation where he must choose once and for all what side of the law he follows. In fact, it is up to Detective Callahan to determine whether he can do the right thing, and be the cop he wants to be, or to succumb to the lifestyle of threats and dangerous connections that he once followed.
