Firewall is a suspense thriller about a Software Security Engineer that oversees a major bank in Seattle, Washington. After being stalked and followed by unknown characters, Jack Stanfield played by Harrison Ford, meets potential business partner, Bill Cox played by Paul Bettany. Together they meet with colleague, Harry Romano (Robert Forester) in a corporate setting downtown. Later that evening Bill follows Jack and persuades him to drive home together. During the drive it is revealed that Bill and his consorts have taken Jack’s wife and children hostage at the house. Jack is threatened into cooperating. Jack, his wife Beth (Virginia Madsen), and two children are informed of the reason for the invasion and attempt to escape. Bill discloses his evil plan to use Jack to steal $100 million from the Landrock Pacific Bank. Jack must transfer the money electronically past the bank’s security system firewall. While navigating the building’s surveillance system, various devices and co-workers, Jack must not tell anyone what he is being forced to do. After escaping his captor, he pursues co-workers for help. Caught up in the suspense is Jack’s secretary, Janet Stone (Mary Lynn Rajskub). She suspects something is wrong and helps him. Together they create a plan to return the stolen money and find his family and the criminals. The plot turns in Jack’s favor as he realizes he has been set-up to take the fall for the crime. He tracks his family’s whereabouts using the dog’s microchip. Turning to the countryside, the main characters convene at an isolated lakeside house. The story climaxes with struggles and fight scenes as Jack wins his family’s freedom. This modern version of a bank heist gives a keen insight into the world of information technology and those who protect it.
