Panic Room is about a mother and daughter who get caught in the midst of a robbery attempt when several men break into their home in an attempt to retrieve millions of dollars that are hidden in a safe in the home. Sarah and her daughter had recently bought the home in New York City and find themselves seeking refuge in the panic room that had been installed by the previous owner. As Sarah and her daughter realize they are being intruded about they run to the panic room and lock themselves in. The only problem is the burglars are well aware that the money they are seeking is in the panic room itself, and a stand off ensues between the two groups. The panic room is encompassed by cement and a steel frame and includes surveillance tapes of the rest of the house, leaving them trapped in the room watching the burglar's every move. Despite being locked in a safe reinforced panic room, the mother and daughter cannot communicate with anyone because the telephone isn't working. The Burglars try several attempts to enter the panic room, including trying to fill the room with propane gas. However, the plan backfires when Sarah ignites the gas and one of the robbers is injured as a result. In a desperate attempt, Sarah is able to reach her ex-husband on the telephone by tapping into the main house's line. She is briefly able to talk to him, just before the robbers realize and cut the line. When her ex-husband arrives he is severely beaten by the intruders, and is used by them to trick Sarah into exiting the panic room. To add to their problems Sarah experiences a seizure from lack of medicine, due to her diabetes. The mother and daughter are cast into a struggle for their lives as they're courage and strength are tested. In order to get out alive, the two must come together and outsmart the intruders if they hope to live to live another day.
