The Game is a mystery thriller with a star-studded cast directed by David Fincher and from PolyGram Filmed Entertainment. The title role in the film is held by Michael Douglas who plays Nicolas Van Orton who receives a mysterious gift from his brother simply referred to as ‘the Game.’ Nicholas is a wealthy banker but he has no contact with any family, so the gift comes as a surprise. Sean Penn plays the mysterious brother named Conrad that contacts Nicholas to tell him that he has given him a game voucher from Consumer Recreation Services. According to Conrad this gift is going to change his life. Nicholas looks up CRS and is suspicious but heads to the company to register where he is irritated by how long it takes due to a series of examinations. Nicholas is told much to his chagrin that his application is rejected and then slowly starts to watch his safety, business, finances, and overall reputation get destroyed. He attempts to get police to help him but they cannot find any trace of CRS.
