Jackals is a 2017 horror film directed by Kevin Greutert and written by Jared Rivet. The story revolves around a family desperate to save their son from a deadly cult that has kidnapped him. The family hires a deprogrammer, played by Deborah Kara Unger, to help them rescue their son. The movie starts off with the kidnapping of the Tanner family's teenage son Justin. The cult responsible for the abduction is known for brainwashing their victims, and the Tanner family is aware that they have very little time before they lose their son forever. They seek the help of a deprogrammer named Jimmy, played by Stephen Dorff, to get their son back.

Together, the family and the deprogrammer hire a team of armed specialists and head out to the cult's isolated cabin in the woods. But as they begin to approach their destination, they start to realize that the cult members, who call themselves "Jackals," are not going to give up their captive easily. The cult members are vicious, and they will stop at nothing to keep Justin with them.

Jackals is a suspenseful movie with a lot of tension and an eerie atmosphere. One of the things that makes this film so haunting is the dynamic between the family members. Each member has their own set of issues, and they are all struggling to deal with the fact that Justin has been taken. The father, played by Johnathon Schaech, is a recovering alcoholic who takes responsibility for his son's abduction, while the mother, played by Deborah Kara Unger, is a devout Christian who believes that her son's predicament is the result of her own sins.

Unger's character, Kathy, is a standout in the film. She is a deprogrammer, a person who helps individuals escape from cults or brainwashing situations. She is tough and not afraid to take risks to save her clients. Her experience and knowledge are invaluable to the Tanner family, and she is the glue that holds them together as they try to rescue Justin.

The cinematography in Jackals is impressive. The movie takes place in a remote cabin in the woods, and the filmmakers make great use of the location's isolation and the natural beauty of the woods. There are several scenes that make great use of shadows and darkness, which add to the movie's overall creepiness.

One of the most memorable things about Jackals is the cult itself. The Jackals are a group of people who are convinced that they are preparing for the end of the world. They wear masks to hide their identity and carry out rituals that involve mutilation and torture. They are a horrifying group of people, and the film does a great job of creating a sense of dread whenever they are onscreen.

Overall, Jackals is a well-crafted horror film that will keep viewers on the edge of their seat. The characters are well-developed, the cinematography is excellent, and the cult is genuinely terrifying. The movie is not afraid to take risks, and the result is a movie that is both suspenseful and unsettling. Fans of horror films won't want to miss this one.

Jackals is a 2017 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 25 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.9 and a MetaScore of 33.
