Flubber is a 1997 live-action family comedy film, directed by Les Mayfield and produced by Walt Disney Pictures. The movie stars the legendary Robin Williams, who plays the role of Professor Philip Brainard, an absent-minded but brilliant scientist who has been trying to create a new source of energy for years. Marcia Gay Harden plays his fiancé Dr. Sara Jean Reynolds, and Christopher McDonald plays the villainous Wilson Croft, a millionaire who is trying to take control of Brainard's invention.

The story is set in the fictional town of Medfield, where Professor Brainard has been neglecting his wedding to Sara on multiple occasions because of his obsession with his experiments. This bizarre behavior has caused frustration and annoyance for Sara, who has given him an ultimatum: marry her by Friday or the engagement will be off. In a desperate attempt to make things right, Brainard creates a new substance in his laboratory, which he calls flubber. Flubber is a green, gooey liquid that has the ability to fly and jump and has incredible energy, making it a potential game-changer for the scientific world.

However, things start to go haywire when Brainard accidentally loses a small amount of flubber and it turns into a hyperactive, bouncy ball. The ball wreaks havoc in his lab, creating a mess and almost destroying the whole building. This leads to a series of comedic events that involve flubber bouncing around the lab, Brainard bouncing off the walls, and Brainard's robot assistant Weebo - voiced by Jodi Benson - becoming jealous of Brainard's newfound attention for flubber.

Things take a dramatic turn when Wilson Croft, the millionaire who has been trying to woo Sara away from Brainard, finds out about the flubber invention and decides to steal it. Croft employs Brainard's rival, Chester Hoenicker, played by Raye Birk, to help him steal the flubber so that he can mass-produce it and create a new source of energy. This, of course, leads to a final showdown between Brainard and Croft that results in some funny and action-packed moments.

The movie has all the ingredients for a classic Disney movie with a lot of slapstick comedy, witty humor, and some heartwarming moments that will make the viewers smile. What works well is the chemistry between Robin Williams and Marcia Gay Harden, who complement each other perfectly. Williams, as always, is in his element, delivering some hilarious one-liners and physical comedy that only he can pull off. The actor's energy and enthusiasm on screen are infectious, and it's easy to see why he was considered one of the greatest comedians of his generation.

Flubber is a remake of the 1961 Disney classic, The Absent-Minded Professor, and while it may not be as memorable as the original, it's still a fun movie that will entertain both kids and adults alike. The special effects used to create the flubber are impressive for its time, and the soundtrack by Danny Elfman complements the movie's lighthearted nature perfectly. While there are some moments that may seem a bit ridiculous, this is a movie that's meant to be enjoyed without taking things too seriously.

Overall, Flubber is a heartwarming and fun movie that's perfect for a family movie night. It showcases Robin Williams' talents and reminds us why he's an irreplaceable icon in the entertainment industry. The movie may have been released over two decades ago, but it still holds its charm and never fails to bring a smile to anyone's face.

Flubber is a 1997 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 33 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.3 and a MetaScore of 37.
