Gangoobai is a heartwarming and inspirational story about a simple village woman who sets out on a journey to fulfill her lifelong dream of possessing a brand new Gara saree. Starring Sarita Joshi as the protagonist Gangoobai, the film is directed by Priya Krishnaswamy, and also stars Purab Kohli and Mita Vashisht. The story revolves around Gangoobai, a chambermaid in a Mumbai hotel, who hails from a humble village in Maharashtra. Despite her meager means, Gangoobai has had a lifelong desire to own a Gara saree, a luxurious and expensive silk saree with intricate designs that are endemic to the Parsi community. She has always admired the saree from afar, longing to touch and wear one someday. Her dream is further fueled when she sees a Parsi couple in the hotel lobby, dressed in traditional Gara attire, and her fascination with the saree deepens.

One day, while cleaning a room, Gangoobai comes across a large sum of money left behind by a guest. This unexpected windfall presents her with the opportunity to fulfill her lifelong dream of owning a Gara saree. She decides to leave her job and embark on a journey to the small Parsi village of Navsari, where she hopes to find the perfect Gara saree. However, her journey is not a smooth one, and she faces several obstacles along the way.

As Gangoobai makes her way to Navsari, she encounters a diverse array of individuals who help her along the way, including a kind-hearted truck driver played by Purab Kohli and a sympathetic Parsi woman played by Mita Vashisht. Through her interactions with these people, Gangoobai learns valuable life lessons that broaden her horizons and transform her perspective on her own life.

The film is a poignant commentary on the class divide that exists in contemporary Indian society, as well as an exploration of the complexities of human relationships. Through the character of Gangoobai, the audience is offered a glimpse into the struggles and joys of a simple village woman who dares to dream big. The film is also an ode to the beauty of the Gara saree, which is presented as a symbol of Indian heritage and tradition.

The acting in the film is superb, with Sarita Joshi delivering a standout performance as Gangoobai. She perfectly captures the innocence and naivety of the character, while also imbuing her with a quiet strength and determination. Purab Kohli and Mita Vashisht are also impressive in their respective roles, adding depth and nuance to the supporting characters.

The film is beautifully shot, with the lush countryside and quaint villages of Maharashtra serving as a picturesque backdrop for Gangoobai's journey. The vibrant colors of the Gara sarees also add to the visual appeal of the film, creating a feast for the eyes.

Overall, Gangoobai is a charming and heartfelt film that offers a unique perspective on contemporary India through the eyes of a simple village woman. It is a film that will leave audiences feeling uplifted and inspired, and is not to be missed.
