Gaydar is a humorous independent romantic comedy released in 2002, directed and written by Ringo Le, and stars Terry Ray, Bryan Dattilo, and Jennifer Echols. The movie follows the misadventures of Darren (Terry Ray), a geeky and slightly awkward fellow who invents a machine that is able to identify gay people. The plot revolves around Darren as he navigates his new invention, which he calls the Gaydar, and how it changes his life. He tries to use it to find love, but it ends up causing more complications than he had anticipated. The film is set in Los Angeles and explores various themes, including sexuality, friendship, love and relationships.

At the opening of the film, Darren works in a technology company and finds himself constantly undervalued and disrespected by his boss. However, everything changes when he designs a machine that can identify gay people within 100 feet. Unsure of how to market his invention or who would even want to use it, Darren debuts it in a gay club, to hilarious and surprising results.

Along the way, Darren meets various people: Mike (Bryan Dattilo), a fellow scientist who becomes his best friend; Yolanda (Jennifer Echols), a lesbian who is dealing with the ups and downs of singlehood; and Jackie (Emily Brooke Hands), a woman who is the physical embodiment of Darren's perfect woman.

As the story progresses, Darren learns that he has a lot to learn and that his Gaydar, while fun and useful, should not define how he perceives others. The film uses a lot of humor to address the misconceptions and stereotypes associated with the LGBTQ+ community.

One of the strengths of the movie is the performances. Terry Ray does a great job portraying Darren, a lovable dork who ultimately learns to accept himself and embrace his quirks. Bryan Dattilo brings a lot of charisma and wit to the role of Mike, a lighthearted scientist who helps Darren find his place in the world. Jennifer Echols is also great as Yolanda, Darren's loveable, tough-as-nails lesbian friend who helps him see beyond his own prejudices.

Overall, Gaydar is a fun and entertaining movie that can be enjoyed by anyone. It's not exactly a groundbreaking film, but it delivers its message with humor and heart. The movie's unique premise and likable characters make it a worthwhile watch, especially for anyone who appreciates independent films or romantic comedies.
