Nicole is the daughter of a French gendarme named Cruchot. When He and his fellow gendarmes are invited to New York for a police conference, Nicole asks to go, but is told family is not invited. Refusing to take no for an answer, Nicole stows away on a ship and makes the trip. When she arrives, she has no visa and is promptly arrested and taken to the French Embassy. After being rescued by a local newspaper reporter, she meets an Italian gendarme and falls in love. During her travels, Nicole gets lost and her Italian love sets out to find her.
