Globe Trekker – Micronesia is a travel adventure documentary film that explores the beautiful and diverse Micronesian islands. The host of the show, Megan McCormick, takes the audience on a journey through the region, showcasing its history, culture, natural beauty, and unique way of life. The film begins with McCormick's arrival in the capital of the Federated States of Micronesia, Palikir. From there, she embarks on an exploration of the region's more than 2,000 islands, starting with Pohnpei. Pohnpei is renowned for its ancient ruins, including a system of aqueducts and stone structures that have stood the test of time. McCormick takes a dive into the Nan Madol ruins, an enigmatic and awe-inspiring place believed to date back to the 13th century. The island's rainforest and its attendant waterfalls make for a refreshing respite in between exploring ancient marvels.

Next on the itinerary is Chuuk, locally known as the 'Truk lagoon.' Chuuk is a diver's paradise with an abundance of shipwrecks strewn all over its ocean floor, remnants of the fierce WWII battles that occurred between the Japanese and the United States. McCormick dives into one of the wrecks, 'the Fujikawa Maru,' to showcase the marine life that thrives in and around the wreck.

Moving on to Yap Island, McCormick explores the island's way of life and traditions that are still upheld today. The islanders dress in traditional costumes, and McCormick joins in a dance with the men and their large stone money that is unique to Yap. McCormick then explores traditional techniques of subsistence fishing, which involve using homemade nets, spears, and boats made of local materials.

The last stop of the tour is the island of Guam, a western outpost in Micronesia. Guam is a melting pot of cultures, and McCormick focuses on the Chamorro people, the island's original inhabitants. She watches a sword-dancing performance, called 'Chamorro Espada,' and then joins the locals at a BBQ feast that involves spit-roasting marinated pork and coconut crab.

Throughout the film, McCormick also presents an overview of Micronesia as a region. She stresses Micronesia's significance in the wider maritime networks of Pacific Islanders over thousands of years, its colonial history, and significant relationships with the United States.

Globe Trekker – Micronesia is rich in stunning visuals and great information about the region's history, culture, and people. With a runtime of approximately fifty-five minutes, the documentary packs in a lot of information and manages to keep the audience engaged throughout its entirety. McCormick's enthusiasm for exploring these islands is palpable, making the film feel like an immersive journey. Globe Trekker – Micronesia is an excellent documentary for travelers and people interested in tropical island paradises, cultural anthropology, social history, and the human-nature relationship.
