Gypsy Girl is a 1966 British drama film directed by Roy Boulting and starring Hayley Mills, Annette Crosbie, and Laurence Naismith. The movie follows the story of Roxy, a young, free-spirited gypsy girl who is torn between her family traditions and her desire for a different life. Roxy lives with her family in a caravan and takes part in their gypsy way of life by performing music and dancing at local festivals. Her father, Uriah, is the leader of the family and he is strict about maintaining their traditions. Uriah insists that Roxy should marry within the gypsy community and carry on the family traditions. However, Roxy doesn't agree with him and dreams of leaving their travelling lifestyle behind and settling down in a house.

One day, Roxy meets a handsome local landowner, Edward Fremont (played by Ian McShane). Roxy is immediately attracted to Edward, who is impressed with her musical talent and invites her to perform for his guests at his mansion. Roxy is thrilled to have the opportunity to perform in such a grand setting and feels drawn to Edward's kind and sophisticated manner.

As Roxy continues to spend time with Edward, she realizes that she is falling in love with him. However, her family disapproves of their relationship and Uriah warns Roxy that if she continues to see Edward, she will be cast out of the community.

Roxy is torn between her love for Edward and her loyalty to her family. She doesn't want to abandon her traditions completely, but at the same time, she longs for a different life. Meanwhile, Edward is also facing pressure from his aristocratic parents, who disapprove of his relationship with Roxy, and he must decide whether to follow his heart or conform to his family's expectations.

As the story progresses, Roxy and Edward's relationship is tested by various obstacles, including Roxy's disease, which threatens to end her career as a dancer. Despite the challenges, Roxy remains determined to find a way to pursue her dreams and be with Edward.

The movie is primarily a character-driven drama and explores themes of love, family, tradition, and identity. Hayley Mills delivers an outstanding performance as Roxy, portraying her character's complexity and emotional struggles with great sensitivity. Annette Crosbie and Laurence Naismith also give strong performances as Uriah and Roxy's mother, Iris, respectively.

Overall, Gypsy Girl is a poignant and heartfelt film that captures the struggles of adjusting to one's place in life and the strong link between tradition and identity.
