Harmony is a 2015 Japanese animated film directed by Takashi Nakamura and Michael Arias. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Project Itoh. The movie is set in a near-future world where technological advancements have led to the creation of a world government. The government has also introduced comprehensive health monitoring and care for all citizens, with nanobots regularly monitoring and regulating their physical and mental states.

The central character of the movie is Tuan Kirie, who narrates the story as she reflects on her past experiences. Tuan is a member of the World Health Organization and an extremely successful individual in her field of work. She is brilliant at what she does but is haunted by a traumatic event from her past.

The story primarily centers around a group of childhood friends, Tuan Kirie, Miach Mihie, and Cian Reikado. On one fateful day in their childhood, they witness the sudden and violent death of a friend. The event changes the dynamics of the group and eventually leads to Miach and Cian joining an anti-government group known as the "society of suicides."

Years later, Tuan is still struggling to come to terms with her friend's death while working for the government. She is tasked with investigating a strange outbreak of suicides in various parts of the world, which only seem to affect people who have previously attempted to commit suicide.

As Tuan delves deeper into the investigation, she uncovers a shocking truth about the society of suicides and the true intentions behind the world government's health programs. She also realizes that her old friends Miach and Cian are heavily involved in the group's activities, and she is forced to confront them.

Harmony is a sci-fi thriller that deals with several mature themes like suicide, euthanasia, and the government's control over society. The film's animation style is striking and unique, with a balance of detailed backgrounds and more stylized character designs.

The movie's sound design is also noteworthy, with Miyuki Sawashiro delivering an excellent and emotional performance as the troubled Tuan. Reina Ueda and Aya Suzaki also provide convincing performances as Miach and Cian, respectively.

One of the film's striking aspects is its depiction of technology and how it affects humanity. On the one hand, the world government's nanobots allow people to live healthy and long lives. However, it also leads to social control, depersonalization, and alienation, ultimately threatening individual freedom.

Overall, Harmony is an engaging and thought-provoking film that explores several complex themes in a mature and respectful manner. It's a must-watch for anyone interested in the sci-fi genre, and its unique animation style is sure to impress even the most seasoned anime appreciator.
