In He Who Must Die, life begins to mimic the Passion Play that the residents of a small Greek town are putting on. The movie tells the story of a Greek town, occupied by the Turks, in 1920, as they go through the motions of every day life in situations that are anything but everyday. The village leaders set about deciding who will perform in the annual play when the course of the village is changed with the arrival of war refugees. Led by their town priest, several displaced individuals enter the town looking for shelter and safety, though they do not find it.
