This drama relates the saga of Dr. Ian Gray. Gray (Michael Pitt), a biologist who is researching the development of the eye. The premise of "I Origins" is that after people die and are reincarnated, they can be identified through high-tech scans of the iris. Ian, a hard-core atheist, believes he can find evidence that the eye has evolved through a series of mutations, which would disprove the divine theory of Intelligent Design and shed light of the question of what happens after death.
Gray, along with his lab partner Karen (Brit Marling), and his friend Kenny (Steven Yeun), are seeking a form of life that has the appropriate genes to enable recreation of the mutations that have preceded the sophisticated optical organ of today. The three young scientists review and document the various eye patterns until they find, through a world-wide database of high-tech eye scans, the eye configuration they are seeking.
I Origins is a 2014 science fiction movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 57 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 7.3 and a MetaScore of 57.
