Impulse is a mystery thriller romance film that was written by Eric Belgau and Charles T. Kanganis, who also directed the movie. The film features Angus Macfadyen, Willa Ford and Robert Moloney in the title roles. The story follows a woman named Claire (played by Willa Ford) who is an advertising manager. She is rather bored with her husband Jonathan (played by Angus Macfadyen), an older psychologist. Since the couple wants a baby very badly, Claire decides to try to create a more conducive environment for romance by spicing things up. She goes out and gets sexy clothes with a wig and renames herself Lucia. She suggests that Jonathan surprise her as a new character called Roberto and that they meet for a tryst. While she is in San Francisco, the two make plans to hook up at a very upscale restaurant and bar. When Claire spots her husband as Roberto in a the establishment - they have a very enjoyable and elegant dinner and then consuming night of all out passion. Things go so well for the couple that they decide to spend another night of love in the hotel. Things go along very well until she suddenly realizes that this man -- who looks exactly like her husband - is not really him at all. It seems impossible, but the man she thought was her husband is a literal dead ringer for her husband. Instead, she has been spending these dinners and nights of passion with a complete and total stranger who calls himself Simon Phillips. Though Claire is very upset at what has transpired, she realizes that the fact is that she just cheated on her husband, even if she didn’t know it. The worst thing, however, is that this man is very dangerous. He is actually a manipulative, unbalanced and murderous psychopath. He also has designs on keeping Claire all to himself, at any cost.
