Watch Kagero-za

This 80s surrealist film, alternatively known as Heat Haze Theater, was directed by Seijun Suzuki and stars, Yusaku Matsuda, Katsuo Nakamura, Mariko Kaga, Michiyo Ohkusu, Yoshio Harada, Eriko Kusuda, Ryutaro Otomo and Emiko Azuma. The plot of the film, such as it is, revolves around various eccentric characters in 1920's Tokyo. The, "Such as it is," was included merely to emphasize the directors lack for wanton randomness and incoherent scripts. In terms of story there is little to be discussed save that everything has, to a greater or lesser extent to do with tragic ghosts.

The film is mostly composed of striking, yet confusing tableauxs and is highly regarded for it's backdrops and atmosphere.
