Kelly of the Secret Service is a 1936 crime/drama film that follows the daring exploits of Kelly (Lloyd Hughes), a federal agent who poses as a dangerous gangster in order to take down a notorious crime boss named Morgan (Forrest Taylor). Along the way, Kelly enlists the help of Jean (Sheila Bromley), a newspaper reporter who is determined to crack the story of the century.

The film is set in the seedy underworld of New York City, where Morgan and his gang rule with an iron fist. Kelly is recruited by the Secret Service to put an end to Morgan's criminal activities, which include counterfeiting, bootlegging, and murder. Kelly is initially hesitant, but he knows that if he can bring Morgan down, he'll be doing a great service for his country.

As Kelly infiltrates Morgan's organization, he meets Jean, who is also investigating the gang. The two quickly team up, with Jean providing valuable insights and information about Morgan's operation. Over time, Kelly and Jean develop a deep bond, with Kelly protecting her from harm while she helps him to get closer to Morgan.

The film is notable for its fast-paced action sequences, including shootouts, car chases, and explosions. Lloyd Hughes gives a convincing performance as Kelly, portraying the character as a tough, no-nonsense agent who will stop at nothing to stop Morgan's criminal empire. Sheila Bromley is also strong as Jean, bringing a sense of intelligence and determination to her role as a reporter who will do whatever it takes to get the story.

Despite its name, Kelly of the Secret Service is not a spy film per se, but rather a crime drama with a strong patriotic message. Throughout the film, Kelly is motivated by a sense of duty to his country, and he is willing to risk his life in order to protect the American people from the dangers of organized crime. The film was released during a time when the United States was facing a number of internal and external threats, and it no doubt played a role in shaping public opinion about the importance of law enforcement and national security.

One of the most memorable scenes in the film occurs towards the end, when Kelly and Morgan engage in a gunfight on top of a burning building. The sequence is expertly choreographed, with the flames and smoke adding a sense of danger and urgency to the action. Ultimately, Kelly emerges triumphant, but not before suffering a serious injury that leaves him in critical condition.

Despite being nearly 85 years old, Kelly of the Secret Service is still an entertaining and engaging film that will appeal to fans of classic crime dramas. Though the plot may be somewhat predictable by modern standards, the film's action sequences are still impressive, and its message of patriotism and duty resonates just as strongly today as it did when the film was originally released. Overall, Kelly of the Secret Service is a must-see for fans of classic cinema and history buffs alike.
