King Kong Lives is a 1986 American monster film directed by John Guillermin, and a sequel to the original 1976 remake of King Kong. The movie stars Brian Kerwin, Linda Hamilton, John Ashton, and Peter Elliott as the titular character. The film follows the story of a female ape, Lady Kong, who is rescued by an artificial heart transplant, and then taken away by the military to become the mate of the giant ape King Kong. However, Kong's new heart is failing and he desperately needs a new one to survive, so a team sets out to capture Lady Kong and bring her back to the United States in the hope of successfully mating the two and keeping Kong alive.

The movie opens with a brief recap of the previous film, in which King Kong was captured and brought to the United States to be displayed as show business. However, he eventually escapes and is shot down from the top of the World Trade Center. The sequel picks up this story 10 years later, with the military discovering the existence of Lady Kong in the jungles of Borneo. They capture her and plan to use her to mate with King Kong. Dr. Amy Franklin (Linda Hamilton), a primatologist, is hired to accompany the team to ensure Lady Kong's wellbeing.

During a failed attempt to get King Kong to accept Lady Kong, he is shot and presumed dead. However, it is revealed that he is still alive but in critical condition, and the scientists decide to perform a risky heart transplant surgery to save him. The operation is successful, but Kong is still not well enough to be with Lady Kong. The military, however, is not willing to give up on the idea of having two giant apes mate, and decides to artificially inseminate Lady Kong.

As time passes, Lady Kong begins to grow uneasy in her captivity, and Dr. Franklin starts to realize that the military is not being truthful about the potential risks involved in forcing the two apes to mate. She teams up with a journalist (Brian Kerwin) to expose the truth and prevent the military from sacrificing Lady Kong's life for their own gain.

The plot takes a twist when Lady Kong escapes her captors and heads back to the jungle. With King Kong's life at stake, the team sets out to capture Lady Kong and retrieve her back. A thrilling action sequence ensues as the team follows Lady Kong deep into the jungle, where they encounter various deadly creatures and perilous terrain.

King Kong Lives is a thrilling adventure movie that delivers on both action and suspense. The plotline of the movie is compelling, and the character arcs are well-developed, bringing depth and meaning to the storyline. Director John Guillermin does an excellent job of bringing the action sequences to life, with special effects that are impressive even by today's standards. The acting performances are also noteworthy, especially by Linda Hamilton and Brian Kerwin.

Overall, King Kong Lives is a captivating and thrilling follow-up to the original King Kong movie. While it may not have eclipsed its predecessor, it stands on its own as an enjoyable and exciting movie that will entertain viewers who are fans of the monster genre.

King Kong Lives is a 1986 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 45 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 3.9 and a MetaScore of 32.
