The Last Chance Cafe was originally shown on the Lifetime network, and was based on the novel of the same name written by Linda Lael Miller. At the cemetery just after the funeral of her stepfather, retired Los Angeles policeman Lou Waitlin, Hallie Boyer finds out his death was not committed by a burglar after all, but by a ring of corrupt policemen, politicians and judges. Waitlin had been collecting evidence against them, but had not taken it to the FBI because Hallie’s ex-husband, district attorney Paul Boyer and father of Hallie’s daughter, Kylie, was among the corrupt officials. Lou’s best friend and fellow retired officer, Charlie Long, gave Hallie a card at the cemetery after the funeral that led her to the evidence he had hidden in her old bedroom. Her ex-husband paid her a surprise visit while she was retrieving the evidence, which prompted her to take their daughter and the evidence and run. She escaped in her step-father’s aging car, driving well into the night until the car broke down in Nevada’s ranch country near a town named Primrose Creek. The heart of the town is a café called the Last Chance Café where Hallie gets a job to pay for the car repairs, since she did not have time to get luggage or money to bring with her. She meets local ranch owner, Chance Coulter, who lets her and Kylie stay in a house he owns near his own for a few days until her car is repaired and she earns enough money to pay for it. A romance develops between Chance and Hallie, but Paul is being pressured by the mafia to find her before their crimes are exposed. Hallie doesn’t know who to trust and has to think of Kylie, who doesn’t understand why she can’t contact her father, whom she loves and misses. This movie has something for everyone, with suspense, mystery, a little violence and the main focus, romance.
