Madura Veeran is a Tamil language drama film released in 2018. The movie revolves around the rural lives of the people in the Madurai district. It portrays the importance of preserving the ancient culture of the place and the need for environmental conservation. Directed by P.G. Muthiah, the movie stars Meenakshi and Samuthirakani in the lead roles.
The story of Madura Veeran revolves around a simpleton named Durai (Shanmuga Pandian). He belongs to a family of hunters who have been in the profession for generations. Durai is the son of Somu, who was once a notorious hunter in the area. Durai loves hunting, but his father wants him to pursue a different profession, as hunting has become illegal now. Durai's father Somu wants him to become an engineer, but Durai is not interested in academic pursuits. However, Durai's life takes a different turn when he meets the beautiful Shakthi (Meenakshi), a conservation biologist who is working on preserving the wildlife in the district.
Shakthi is a young woman who comes from a family of conservationists. She believes in the importance of preserving nature for the future generations. She is also a strong supporter of traditional hunting practices, which are eco-friendly and sustainable. Shakthi is impressed with Durai's skills as a hunter and wants to learn more about the ancient hunting practices of the region. She joins Durai and his father on their hunting trips, and over time, she develops feelings for Durai.
Meanwhile, an evil real estate tycoon named Bhai (Samuthirakani) is eyeing the forest land for his own selfish purposes. He plans to build a resort on the land, which will destroy the natural habitat of the animals in the area. He bribes the local politicians and police officers to get the necessary permissions for his project. When Shakthi and Durai come to know about Bhai's plans, they decide to fight against him and save the forest.
The first half of the movie is slow-paced and sets the stage for the conflict to follow. The director takes his time to establish the characters and create an emotional connect with the audience. The second half of the movie picks up pace, with the conflict between Durai, Shakthi, and Bhai taking center stage. The climax of the movie is intense and action-packed, with the hunters and conservationists fighting against the goons of Bhai to save the forest.
In terms of performances, Shanmuga Pandian delivers a solid performance as Durai. He brings the right mix of naivety and charm to the character. Meenakshi is a breath of fresh air as Shakthi. She is natural and convincing in her portrayal of a conservation biologist. Samuthirakani, as usual, is excellent as Bhai. He is one of the few actors who can effortlessly switch between playing a hero or a villain.
The director, P.G. Muthiah, has done a decent job of portraying the rural lifestyle of the people in the Madurai district. He captures the beauty of the forests and the simplicity of the villagers in a realistic manner. The music by Santhosh Dhayanidhi is another highlight of the movie. The songs are melodious and add to the emotional connect of the audience with the characters.
Overall, Madura Veeran is a decent movie that highlights the importance of preserving our ancient cultural practices and natural resources. The movie has a strong message about the need for environmental conservation and the dangers of commercialization. While the movie is slow-paced in the first half, it picks up pace in the second half and delivers an intense climax. It is definitely worth a watch for those who enjoy drama films with a social message.
