Man from the Deep River is a 1972 horror film directed by Umberto Lenzi. The movie is set in the jungles of Thailand and tells the story of a young photojournalist named John Bradley who is kidnapped by a local tribe and forced to witness their barbaric rituals. The movie opens with John arriving in Bangkok, Thailand to photograph the beautiful landscapes of the country. However, after two local thugs steal his belongings, John is stranded in the city with no money or passport. He ends up accepting a job from a local businessman who wants him to travel to the jungle and photograph the beautiful landscapes of that region.

When John arrives in the jungle, he begins taking photographs of the local indigenous people. He also discovers that the tribe has a brutal culture and are involved in ritualistic sacrifices. He is shocked to see that the tribe regularly performs these sacrifices on animals and people from neighboring tribes.

Unluckily, John falls into the hands of the tribe and becomes a prisoner. He is tied up, beaten, and forced to witness their barbaric rituals. However, he tries to escape but is quickly caught and brought back to the tribe's village. While being held captive, he becomes fascinated by a beautiful young woman named Mae. John and Mae eventually fall in love, and she helps him to escape by fleeing into the jungle.

However, the couple's newfound freedom is short-lived as they are pursued by the tribe's warriors who want them back. From that point on, John and Mae must fight for their lives as they try to survive in the treacherous jungle.

As they journey through the jungle, John and Mae encounter other tribes, dangerous animals, and a group of treasure hunters. John eventually learns the ways of the jungle and the skills he needs to survive.

The movie is known for its graphic violence and shocking scenes of animal cruelty. However, it was also one of the first movies to showcase the beauty and mystery of the Thai jungle, making it an essential movie for adventurers or explorers. The film also explores the complexities of cultural differences and human nature.

Man from the Deep River was the first film to start the Cannibal genre movies era, inspiring other filmmakers to produce similar movies like Cannibal Holocaust and Cannibal Ferox.

Overall, Man from the Deep River is a cult classic and essential viewing for horror fans, adventurers, and anyone interested in exploring different cultures. The movie has aged well and still has the power to shock and surprise even those who have watched it before.
