Manjil Virinja Pookkal is a 1980 Malayalam-language romantic drama film directed by Fazil. The film stars Shankar, Poornima Jayaram, Mohanlal and Kalaranjini in pivotal roles. The movie revolves around the love story of Raju and Radha which faces several obstacles due to the family differences. The film starts with Raju, a rich businessman's son, who is in love with Radha, who belongs to a poor family. Radha's father is against their relationship as he does not want his daughter to enter into a relationship with someone who is of a higher social class. Raju is heartbroken and devastated after hearing this. But his love for Radha doesn't diminish and he constantly pursues her.

Raju's father is also against Raju's relationship with Radha and wants him to marry someone from his social class. The story takes a turn when Raju's father passes away suddenly. His family members, who were against Raju's love for Radha, try to separate the two lovers, but fate has other plans.

The movie gradually builds up to the climax where Raju finally wins over the trust of Radha's father and they both get married. But their joyous moment is short-lived as Raju gets caught up in a business deal that goes wrong. This leads him to become bankrupt and lose everything he had. He is now left with nothing but his love for Radha.

The movie stands out for its excellent portrayal of the characters and their emotions. Shankar and Poornima Jayaram deliver impactful performances. Shankar perfectly portrays the character of Raju, who is passionate about his love for Radha and doesn't give up on her even when his family and society are against him. On the other hand, Poornima Jayaram does justice to the role of Radha, an innocent and simple girl who is caught up in the midst of family disputes.

Mohanlal, who plays the character of Sagar, Raju's friend, also delivers a noteworthy performance. His character provides comic relief in several scenes and maintains a balance between the serious and light moments in the movie.

The film also features beautiful songs composed by Jerry Amaldev, which adds to the charm of the movie. The film's cinematography by Anandakuttan is commendable, as it captures the scenic beauty of Kerala's backwaters and lush green landscapes.

Overall, Manjil Virinja Pookkal is an emotional rollercoaster that tugs at the heartstrings. The film's honest portrayal of love and its obstacles and the strong performances by the cast have earned it a cult-classic status, making it a must-watch for lovers of Malayalam cinema.
