During WWII, Nazi Germany began a top secret operation to invade the Soviet Union. A code name was given to their plans so in the event that their transmission were intercepted the Allied forces would not know their true plans. Operation Barbarossa plans were created by Adolf Hitler. Thorough planning went into the attack that included four million soldiers. High casualties, especially for the Germans, left the Axis powers flailing and gave the Allies the advantage.
