Padikathavan is a 2009 Tamil-language action film that stars Dhanush, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Vivek in pivotal roles. Directed by Suraj, the film is a remake of the Telugu movie, Vikramarkudu, and features Dhanush in a dual role as a cop and a local goon. The storyline revolves around a young man, Rocky (Dhanush), who is a small-time thief and prankster. He falls in love with a college student, Gayatri (Tamannaah Bhatia), but struggles to win her heart due to his wayward behavior. Meanwhile, a dreaded gangster, Annachi (Atul Kulkarni), who runs the city's underground empire, challenges the police department with his violent activities. To thwart his plans, the police commissioner (Sayaji Shinde) devises a plan and recruits Rocky to impersonate a police officer and infiltrate Annachi's gang.

The movie begins with Rocky's introduction as a jovial college student who loves to play pranks on his friends and lecturers. His carefree attitude and penchant for mischief earn him the nickname "Picket" or "Pichhoda." As the story progresses, we see him falling in love with Gayatri, a demure college girl who he refers to as "Pinky."

Gayatri, however, is unimpressed by Rocky's antics and demands that he turn over a new leaf if he wants to win her heart. Rocky takes up a job as a security guard at Gayatri's college to get closer to her and mend his ways. But his past catches up with him when he is recognized by Annachi's henchmen, who are on the lookout for him. Rocky manages to escape their clutches but is forced to abandon his job and flee the city to save himself.

In the second half of the movie, we are introduced to a new character, "Prakash Raj" (Dhanush), who is the polar opposite of Rocky. He is a tough and honest cop who has earned a reputation for his no-nonsense approach towards crime. Prakash Raj is tasked with bringing down Annachi's empire by posing as a double agent and gathering evidence against him.

Rocky and Prakash Raj cross paths when they are mistaken for each other by Annachi's henchmen. Rocky is forced to impersonate Prakash Raj to save himself, and in the process, he gains access to Annachi's inner circle. He helps the police department to gather evidence against Annachi's illegal activities and brings him to justice.

The movie's plot offers a healthy dose of action, comedy, and romance. It showcases the transformation of a wayward youth into a responsible individual who is willing to put his life on the line for the greater good. Dhanush delivers a stunning performance in a dual role as Rocky and Prakash Raj. Tamannaah Bhatia's portrayal of Gayatri as a practical and mature young woman is noteworthy. Vivek provides comic relief with his witty one-liners and hilarious expressions.

The movie's music, composed by Mani Sharma, features catchy tunes that complement the film's mood. The song "Hey Rosu Rosu" became a chartbuster, and the choreography for the dance sequences was widely appreciated by audiences.

Overall, Padikathavan is a compelling movie that entertains with its engaging storyline, powerful performances, and a well-crafted screenplay. It's a must-watch for fans of Dhanush and those who enjoy action-packed masala movies.
