Pet Sematary is a chilling horror flick from 2019 that stars Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz, and John Lithgow. It revolves around a doctor named Louis Creed (Clarke) who moves with his family from Boston to rural Maine to start a new life. They soon discover a pet cemetery in the woods behind their house that seems to have strange powers.

The movie opens with Louis and his wife Rachel (Seimetz) driving up to the country home they have just purchased. They are accompanied by their two young children, Ellie (Jeté Laurence) and Gage (Hugo & Lucas Lavoie). They are greeted by their friendly old neighbor, Jud Crandall (Lithgow), who tells them about the pet cemetery in the woods behind their house. He warns them that the woods are dangerous and that they should stay away from the cemetery.

As Louis settles into his new job as a doctor at the local university, strange things begin to happen around their house. Ellie starts having nightmares about a twisted figure called the 'Pet Sematary', and their cat, Church, is killed on the busy road outside their house. Jud takes Louis and Ellie to the woods and shows them a secret burial ground beyond the pet cemetery, where they can bury Church.

After Church is buried, he comes back to life, but he is different. He is aggressive, his fur is matted and smelly, and he seems to have lost some of his personality. However, it is not the only thing that comes back from the dead, and soon the family is caught up in a nightmare that threatens to consume them all.

One of the strengths of this movie is its characters. Each character has a well-developed backstory, and each plays his or her part in the unfolding drama. Jason Clarke is excellent as the conflicted Louis, who is torn between his love for his family and his desire to cheat death. Amy Seimetz is equally good as Rachel, who is haunted by a traumatic childhood incident involving her sister, Zelda. And John Lithgow brings depth and gravitas to the role of Jud, an old man who has seen too much suffering in his life.

Another strength of the movie is its atmosphere. The filmmakers have created a sense of dread that permeates every scene, from the desolate woods to the eerie pet cemetery to the creepy old house. The sound design is also superb, with an eerie score and some truly unsettling sound effects that will send shivers down your spine.

However, the movie does have some flaws. The pacing is a little slow in the early parts of the film, and some of the scares feel a bit cheap or predictable. The climax also feels rushed and unsatisfying compared to the slow, tense build-up that precedes it. But overall, these are minor quibbles in an otherwise excellent horror movie.

In conclusion, Pet Sematary is a well-crafted horror movie that delivers chills and thrills in equal measure. It boasts strong performances, effective atmosphere, and some truly unsettling scares. Fans of the horror genre and Stephen King fans are sure to enjoy this adaptation of one of his most popular novels.

Pet Sematary is a 2019 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 41 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.7 and a MetaScore of 57.
