Pete's Dragon is a 2016 live-action and computer-animated adventure fantasy film directed by David Lowery and produced by Walt Disney Pictures. The movie is a reimagining of the 1977 musical comedy of the same name. In the movie, we follow the story of an orphan boy, Pete, who had a tragic accident in the forest while on a family vacation but managed to survive by being rescued by a dragon, whom he later named Elliot. Although initially reluctant to trust the creature, the two form a deep bond and become inseparable friends.

The story begins with a six-year-old Pete on a road trip with his parents in the Pacific Northwest where they have an accident along the way. As he tries to search for help, he encounters a pack of wolves, and in his attempt to escape, he falls off the cliff and gets lost in the forest, where he is rescued by Elliot, a big, friendly, green dragon. Elliot, an orphan like Pete, takes the boy under his wing, and becomes his protector and friend. He teaches the boy how to live in the wild and even shares his ability to fly. For six years, the two of them forge an unbreakable bond while living together in the forest.

However, their idyllic life is cut short when a team of loggers led by Gavin (Karl Urban) discover their existence, and Pete attracts the attention of Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), a forest ranger who is intrigued by Pete's stories of a dragon. As Grace tries to find Pete's family and let him study, Pete is torn between leading an ordinary life with Grace and returning with Elliot to his home in the forest. Meanwhile, Gavin and his team threaten to destroy Elliot's habitat and turn him into a trophy, leading to a race against time to save the dragon and preserve nature's beauty.

Throughout the movie, we see the emotional growth of each of the characters, particularly Pete, who must come to terms with his new life outside of the forest and his conflicting desires to return to his beloved dragon and remain with his newfound family. We also see Grace, who is skeptical of the stories about the dragon but eventually opens her heart to the possibility of mystical creatures and the importance of preserving the natural world. Alongside them, we have Robert Redford as Grace's father and a woodcarver who has a history with the dragon, and Oakes Fegley, who plays young Pete with innocence and conviction, making for a realistic portrayal of a child living in the wilderness alone.

The movie is an enchanting and heartfelt tale that explores themes of friendship, love, loss, and family, capturing the wonder of childhood and the beauty of nature in stunning visuals. The computer animation for Elliot is seamless, and the interactions between him and the surrounding environment are breathtaking. The movie has a magical and ethereal feel to it that immerses the viewer into its world and evokes a deep sense of nostalgia and wonder.

Overall, Pete's Dragon is a delightful film that can be enjoyed by audiences of all ages. It's a heartwarming story that celebrates the beauty of the natural world and the preciousness of relationships. Through the adventures of Pete and Elliot, we are reminded of the importance of protecting the environment and the creatures that inhabit it. It's a movie that will leave you feeling uplifted and touched, and one that you'll want to share with loved ones.
