Pretty Ugly People

"Is losing the weight worth losing your friends?"

Pretty Ugly People is a comedy film that was written and directed by Tate Taylor and features Allison Janney, Missi Pyle, Josh Hopkins and Melissa McCarthy. The story follows Lucy (played by Missi Pyle), a woman who has spent her life being considered fat and rather invisible and unpopular as a result. She reaches out to get together with her college friends for a fun, long weekend. However, she becomes shocked that they are all living very different lives than she ever would have suspected. She'd always assumed that because they were thin and popular, they were all happy. Becky (played by Melissa McCarthy) is one of her most caring friends and helps gather the others who have been too busy with their own lives to have time to spend with Lucy. However, Lucy is in a hurry to see them all for some apparent emergency of which is unclear as Becky rounds them all up. In any event, the old pals assume that Lucy must be dying and that they need to go and see her regardless of whether they are busy or really want to or not - before it is too late. Austin (played by Larry Sullivan) is a good looking guy and a rather indifferent friend. Mr. Moseby (played by Phill Lewis) is a very stressed out hotel concierge who gets to deal with all the college kids and their antics. George (played by Josh Hopkins) is an angry young man who never seems happy about anything because he is living in his father’s shadow. Once the group arrives, they are none too pleased to learn that Lucy has arranged for all of them to go on a four day through the woods. Trevor (played by Jack Noseworthy) is a sweet friend who knew what Lucy was planning and because she had always had a crush on him, he is more tolerant of the situation.
