Priyam is a Tamil-language film starring Prakash Raj and Arun Vijay in significant roles. The movie released in the year 1996 is a typical romantic drama flick. The film is directed by Mani Ratnam and produced by G. Venkateswaran under the banner of G. V. Films. Priyam tells the story of two young people, Siva and Madhu, who fall in love with each other. Siva, played by Arun Vijay, is a talented painter who has a zeal for life. Madhu, played by Sabitha Anand, is a simple girl from a conservative family. Even though they come from different backgrounds, they connect with each other on a deep level and decide to start a new life together.

However, their love faces a lot of challenges. Siva has an alcoholic father who doesn't approve of their relationship. Meanwhile, Madhu's father is a strict man who is against love marriages. They also have to deal with the wrath of their respective families and society.

The couple tries their best to convince their families but to no avail. Eventually, they decide to elope and start a new life together. However, life is not easy for them. They face a lot of struggles, including financial troubles and societal pressure. They have to move from one place to another to escape from the clutches of Madhu's family who wants her to marry someone else.

Meanwhile, Siva's father realizes his mistake and starts looking for his son. Despite all the challenges, the couple tries to hold on to their love and keep their faith in each other. Will they be able to stay together against all odds?

The film's plot is not entirely unique; it takes on the traditional storyline of Romeo and Juliet. Nevertheless, it has been well-executed, and the cinematography is impressive. The performances of the lead actors are also noteworthy. Prakash Raj portrays the role of Siva's father, who has a drinking problem, exceptionally convincingly. On the other hand, Arun Vijay does an admirable job of portraying the free-spirited artist, Siva.

The movie's music, composed by the legendary A. R. Rahman, is a highlight of the movie. The songs are still popular even though it has been more than two decades since the movie's release. The film's background score is terrific and sets the mood of the film.

Overall, Priyam is an excellent film that showcases the power of love and its resilience towards societal norms. The movie depicts the challenges faced by young couples in love in India and the consequences of defying society's expectations. It is a must-watch for anyone who enjoys a good romantic drama.
