Racing Dreams is a sports documentary that profiles three young Karting racers as they reach the national level of competition. The World Karting Association often leads to a NASCAR career, if the kids show the talent for speed and skill, and the dedication to spend most of their free time in the Karting world. The families must also sacrifice time and lots of money to help their children pursue their dreams, and the film explores the challenges each of these young participants face. Twelve-year old Josh Hobson, the defending champion, has the polished demeanor of a media professional. He comfortably woos sponsors and reporters, seemingly modeling his style on the NASCAR drivers he admires. Brandon Warren, 13, faces a more difficult path to a racing career. His divorced parents do not have the same money as Josh, and his father has disappeared out of his life. His sometimes angry personality also does not win him fans or sponsors. At 11 years old, Annabeth Barnes can keep up with the boys in the sport. Yet her family’s enthusiasm for Karting may outweigh her own, as she reaches the age when exploring her feminine side and flirting with Brandon are more interesting than racing. The film follows the trio through five important races that will determine the next champion. Reaching speeds of 70 miles per hour, and traveling across the country for races, these young kids prove their mettle as serious drivers. They also show that they are just ordinary adolescents, with family squabbles and petulant behavior like their peers. As the stakes rise during the racing circuit, each of the young racers will have to decide if they want to continue their Karting obsession, and if they have what it takes to become a professional.
