Ramchand Pakistani is a heartwarming film set in the backdrop of the Indo-Pak partition. The movie delves into the human aspect of the political tragedy that took place on the Indian subcontinent in 1947. Directed by Mehreen Jabbar, the film stars Nandita Das, Rashid Farooqi, and Syed Fazal Hussain in pivotal roles. The plot revolves around a father-son duo, Shankar and Ramchand, who belong to the lowest caste in the Indian village of Chhachhrauli. One day, while playing near the border, Ramchand accidentally crosses over to the Pakistani side along with his father. The father-son duo gets arrested by the Pakistani army on the suspicion of being Indian spies. They are thrown into jail, branded as terrorists, and are left to languish in the prison for years.

The movie also revolves around the life of Shankar's wife Champa, who is left behind in India. She is not aware of her husband and son's whereabouts and is devastated by their sudden disappearance. She is forced to live with her in-laws, who constantly berate her for her son's mistake.

The movie portrays the harsh reality of the partition, where innocent people were forced to flee their homes, leaving behind their lives and identities. The film depicts the struggles of a family, torn apart by the political unrest and how their lives were impacted by the events that took place during the partition.

The director of the film has masterfully crafted the emotional state of the characters to show the audience a glimpse of the pain, trauma, and emotional turmoil that the partition had inflicted upon the people. The movie highlights the critical question of whether it is ever justified to put innocent lives in danger in the name of national security.

The movie shows how the innocence of a child can become a casualty of suspicion, hatred, and propaganda churned out by leaders spewing poison, and how the adults could become victims of circumstances beyond their control, where the enemy can become a friend and friend an enemy.

The film shows how Shankar and Ramchand's lives turn upside down due to factors beyond their control, and how they lose everything, including their identity. In the movie, the audience can vividly see the desperation and angst of a father who has lost his son, and a child who yearns to be reunited with his mother and father.

Nandita Das plays the role of Champa, Shankar's wife, who is left behind in India. Her profound acting skills have allowed her to showcase the emotional spectrum of a woman who has lost everything due to the partition. Her portrayal of Champa is heart-wrenching and beautiful at the same time, showing the resilience and determination of a victim of the partition.

The performances by Syed Fazal Hussain, who plays Shankar, and Rashid Farooqi, who plays Ramchand, are phenomenal. The two actors have successfully portrayed the helplessness and desperation of a father and son who are caught in the middle of a political tussle that they do not understand.

The movie does justice to the sensitive topic of the partition, depicting the suffering and trauma that the common people had to endure. It highlights the pain that even after seven decades, the wounds of the partition are still raw and show how a single mistake can lead to catastrophic consequences.

Ramchand Pakistani is a poignant movie that challenges the divisive and destructive forces of hatred, ignorance, and bigotry. The movie enlightens us that ultimately, the concept of borders is just an illusion, and we are all humans caught in a web of circumstances beyond our control. It shows us that even in the face of adversity, love and humanity can shine through, and hope can prevail.
