Red Cockroaches is a 2003 independent film directed by Miguel Coyula. The movie is a surrealistic neo-noir that follows the story of Stephen Dudas, a drifter who arrives in New York in search of a job. He soon finds himself caught up in a dangerous world of drug trafficking, money laundering, and murder. The movie begins with Stephen (Adam Plotch) working in a factory in the Midwest until he is laid off. With no prospects for a new job, he decides to head to New York in search of work. As he tries to find his footing in the city, he meets a mysterious woman named Grace (Talia Rubel), who is involved in an underground world of crime.

Stephen becomes drawn into Grace's world, where he encounters a variety of strange characters, including a dealer named Zero (Diane Spodarek). As he becomes more involved in this dark and dangerous world, he finds himself losing touch with his own reality. He begins to have vivid hallucinations and strange dreams that blur the line between fantasy and reality.

Throughout the movie, the audience is taken on a journey through the surreal and bizarre underworld of New York City. The cinematography is a blend of stark black and white contrasts and vibrant, dream-like colors that give the film a unique visual style.

The movie also features a haunting soundtrack that adds to the film's overall eerie atmosphere. The score, composed by Leonardo Heiblum and Jacobo Lieberman, incorporates a mix of traditional orchestral music and electronic soundscapes.

The performances in the movie are solid across the board. Adam Plotch carries the movie well as the lead character, Stephen. He portrays the character's descent into madness with a quiet intensity that draws the audience in. Talia Rubel is likewise excellent in her role as Grace, conveying a sense of danger and mystery that keeps the audience guessing.

Diane Spodarek's Zero is a standout character in the movie, commanding attention with her confident and enigmatic presence. The other supporting characters also deliver solid performances, each contributing to the film's atmosphere of menace and intrigue.

Overall, Red Cockroaches is a film that is difficult to classify. It's part crime drama, part surrealist epic, and part psychological thriller. The movie is ambitious in its scope and visuals, but it also has a strong underlying narrative that keeps the audience engaged.

While the film is certainly not for everyone, those who are fans of experimental cinema and offbeat storytelling will find much to appreciate. The movie can be challenging at times, but it's ultimately a rewarding experience for those who are willing to take the journey.
