Reno 911!: Miami is a 2007 comedy film based on the television series Reno 911!. The movie was directed by Robert Ben Garant, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Thomas Lennon, and stars many of the same actors from the TV show, including Thomas Lennon, Robert Ben Garant, and Kerri Kenney. The movie begins with the members of the Reno Sheriff's Department, all dressed in their trademark short shorts and mustaches, acting out a sting operation to arrest drug dealers. Unfortunately, the arrest goes awry when the dealers escape on a Sea-Doo, leaving the entire department looking foolish.
Meanwhile, the city of Miami is preparing to play host to the National Police Convention, which is attended by police departments from all over the country. The convention is a big deal for the department, and Sheriff Jim Dangle (Thomas Lennon) is excited to be the keynote speaker. However, when the department's incompetence is put on display in front of the other officers, Dangle loses his chance to speak and the entire department is humiliated.
During their stay in Miami, the members of the Reno Sheriff's Department get caught up in a series of comedic mishaps and misadventures. When they get word that a bio-terrorist attack is imminent and may occur in Miami, they must mobilize to save the city. Along the way, they encounter a host of quirky characters, including a retired police dog, a famous actor engaged in a high-speed chase, and a pair of surfer brothers who turn out to be undercover FBI agents.
Throughout the movie, the characters engage in over-the-top stunts and gags, many of which are reminiscent of the TV show's signature absurdist humor. There are car chases, explosions, and plenty of slapstick comedy. However, the movie also has some moments of heart, especially when the characters are forced to confront their own limitations and professional shortcomings.
Reno 911!: Miami is a raunchy and irreverent comedy that often goes for laughs at the expense of good taste. However, it is also a clever and well-crafted satire that pokes fun at the conventions of the police procedural genre. The movie is filled with in-jokes and references that will be appreciated by fans of the TV show, but it can also be enjoyed by viewers who are new to the series.
Overall, Reno 911!: Miami is a fun and entertaining movie that will appeal to fans of comedy and satire. It may not be a cinematic masterpiece, but it is certainly an enjoyable way to spend an evening.
