Richard Pryor: Live on the Sunset Strip
- 1 hr 36 min
At the time, some called Richard Pryor the funniest man alive. To some, that truly wasn't a stretch. The skinny beanpole of a man from Peoria, Illinois left that central Illinois town and the unpromising brothel his grandmother managed, and in 1982, wound up on West Hollywood's Sunset Strip. The movie, "Richard Pryor: Live on the Sunset Strip", was the comic genius' most lucrative film of his 4 concert recordings. It also garnered Pryor a 1982 Grammy Award for Best Comedy Recording. In front of a mixed crowd, Pryor frankly jokes about and makes fun of situations and events concerning himself. He draws the audience into his world of humor so adeptly, that they seemingly forget that quite a bit of that humor is born of tragic and depressing events in his life. Rest assured however, Pryor does give just enough current event humor (for the time) to create an effective balance.
