Based on the novel “The Redemption of Sarah Cain” by Beverly Lewis and directed by Michael Landon Jr., Saving Sarah Cain is a movie about finding yourself and learning to forgive those who have wronged you. The movie is based on Sarah Cain (played by Lisa Pepper) a columnist in Oregon. She gained popularity by writing about her life in the orphanage but she came under fire from her boss when she quit writing such pieces and began writing what her boss feels are cheap columns without depth and meaning. She leaves work angry and meets up with her boyfriend Bryan (Tom Tate) at a restaurant to a meal and much needed venting. During their meal is surprised when her niece Liddy (Abigail Mason) calls her and tells her that her older sister, Ivy, has died of heart failure. Sarah is left guardianship of Ivy’s children and she must learn to forgive her sister and to open her eyes and heart to the nieces and nephews that God has given her. She stays the night at the Amish community and, out of desperation of an approaching deadline, sends her boss a column about the day’s events and how it affected her. Although she only did it out of fear of missing the deadline, Sarah is surprised to learn the readers loved the piece and were asking for more. Hearing this, Sarah decides to take the children back to Portland Oregon and write pieces about them in an attempt to save her career. However, it quickly becomes all too apparent that the children do not belong in modern society and Sarah decides to quit writing articles about them. However, her rival Madison (Jennifer O’Dell) is not about to let such an opportunity to beat Sarah pass her up and brings a news crew Caleb’s (Sarah’s nephew) wrestling match. Sarah admits the situation has gone bad and takes the kids back to the Amish community. She is leaving the community when Liddy runs to her and gives her a letter than Ivy had written her asking for her forgiveness. Sarah then must decide whether or not to stay in the Amish community or to return to Portland where her life is.
