Scarlet Street is a 1945 film noir movie starring Edward G. Robinson. The movie was directed by Fritz Lang. The combination of Lang and Robinson is reason enough to see the movie. Robinson plays Chris Cross a mild-mannered amateur painter. His character was an 180 degree turn from the tough guy roles that he was known for. Cross comes to the rescue of a young woman named Kitty (Joan Bennett) he thinks is being robbed as he is strolling through Greenwich Village. The would-be-robber is actually the young girl’s shyster boyfriend Johnny (Dan Duryea). Bennett is a femme fatale who uses her charms to seduce and take advantage of Cross. He is trapped in a loveless marriage. Kitty talks Cross into providing her an apartment that can double as an art studio. This is one of the best movies of the film noir genre.
