Seeta Aur Geeta is a classic Hindi film released in 1972 and directed by Ramesh Sippy. It is a story of twin sisters who are separated at birth and lead completely different lives until fate brings them together. The movie starts with the birth of the twin sisters. Seeta, played by Hema Malini, is born to a wealthy family while Geeta, also played by Hema Malini, is born to a poor family. The parents of the twin sisters die shortly after their birth, and Seeta is raised by her wealthy grandparents while Geeta is brought up by her uncle and aunt, who are cruel towards her. Seeta grows up to be a demure and obedient girl, who is constantly being mistreated by her aunt and uncle. On the other hand, Geeta becomes a boisterous and feisty girl, who is unafraid to stand up for herself. She runs away from home to avoid her aunt and uncle's cruelty and ends up living on the streets. One day, fate brings the two sisters together when they accidentally meet at a railway station. They are shocked to see how similar they look and decide to swap places for a few days as an experiment. The plan goes awry when Geeta is mistaken for Seeta and is taken to her grandmother's house. At Seeta's grandmother's house, Geeta is introduced to Ravi, played by Sanjeev Kumar. Ravi is a kind and gentle man who immediately takes a liking to Geeta. As Geeta spends more time with Ravi, she falls in love with him. Meanwhile, Seeta meets a rickshaw puller named Raka, played by Dharmendra. Raka is a carefree and happy-go-lucky guy who brings a lot of joy into Seeta's life. Things take a dramatic turn when Geeta's uncle and aunt find out where she is and try to take her back. They succeed in taking her away from Seeta's grandmother's house, and Geeta is forced to return to a life of misery and abuse. Seeta and Raka realize what has happened and team up to rescue Geeta. They plan a daring escape for Geeta and manage to smuggle her out of her uncle and aunt's house. They bring her to Ravi's house, where they are all reunited. The rest of the movie is about how the twin sisters navigate their lives and find love in the process. The movie is a classic Bollywood film with great music, dance, and drama. The performances of the lead actors, Hema Malini, Sanjeev Kumar, and Dharmendra, are outstanding, and the chemistry between them is palpable. Overall, Seeta Aur Geeta is a heartwarming story about the bond between twin sisters and the power of love to overcome all obstacles. It is a must-watch for all Bollywood fans and a great representation of Hindi cinema in the 70s.
