Shootfighter is a 1993 action-packed martial arts film directed by Patrick Alan and starring Bolo Yeung, Maryam d'Abo, and William Zabka. The movie follows the story of Nick and Ruben, two former friends and now fierce rivals who are both in the business of professional martial arts. Nick is a successful full-contact fighter who has won almost all his fights, becoming a legend in the underground fight scene. He is also the kingpin of an underground fight club and has brutal methods of training his fighters to win. Ruben, on the other hand, is a failed fighter who is now managing several fighters and is struggling to make ends meet.

The plot of the movie is centered around the Kumite, a secret martial arts tournament that pits fighters from all around the world against each other. Nick is invited to participate in the Kumite and aims to win the tournament for the prize money and the prestige that comes with it. However, Ruben has also entered the Kumite and has his own agenda. He seeks to use the tournament to take revenge on Nick for a past betrayal that has left their friendship broken.

The movie features some of the most intense and brutal fight scenes that have ever been put on screen. The fights are choreographed and executed by some of the best martial artists of the time, including Bolo Yeung, who plays the ruthless mastermind of the Kumite. Bolo's performance is outstanding, and he presents a very convincing portrayal of a master fighter who is both cruel and calculating.

Maryam d'Abo plays the role of Katie, Nick's love interest and the only person who seems to be able to keep him in line. Katie is used to portray the human side of Nick, who is otherwise shown as a cold-hearted fighter with no regard for anyone else. William Zabka plays Ruben, and he delivers an excellent performance as Nick's rival.

One of the themes that are explored in the movie is the dark side of the martial arts world. The film highlights the gruesome aspects of the underground fight scene, including the exploitation of fighters for the entertainment of the spectators. The movie also explores the concept of honor in martial arts, with Nick and Ruben holding opposing views on the matter. Nick values winning above all else and is willing to do whatever it takes to win, even if it means breaking the rules. Ruben, on the other hand, values honor and sees Nick's actions as dishonorable and disgraceful.

Overall, Shootfighter is a must-watch movie for anyone who loves martial arts and action films. The movie has everything that fans of the genre could want, including intense action, great fight scenes, and compelling characters. The performances from the actors are top-notch, and the story is gripping and well-paced. The film's exploration of the dark side of martial arts adds a layer of depth to the story and makes it more than just another mindless action flick.
