Naval officer Mike Malone is struggling to return to his base in San Diego and report to the USS Florida on time and in a last ditch effort teams up with a young runaway to hitchhike to the base. The runaway, Tommy is left at the base by Mike who eventually finds his way to his ship and thinks nothing more of the runaway. Tommy is spotted by the daughter of an officer who quickly jumps to the conclusion he is Mike's son and has been abandoned by his father.
