Suhaag is an Indian Hindi film produced by Rajinder Kumar Sharma, Ramesh Sharma, Shakti Subhash Sharma and Prakash Trehan. The film was directed by Manmohan Desai. Suhaag was released in 1979 in India. Suhaag stars Parveen Babi, Amitabh Bachchan, Jeevan, Shashi Kapoor, Amjad Khan, Kader Khan, Jagdish Raj, Ranjeet, Rekha and Nirupa Roy. In the film, Vikram Kapoor, played by Amjad Khan, and Durga, played by Nirupa Roy, are a husband and wife who have been together for several years. Vikram has become a notorious gangster and has provoked a fellow criminal named Jaggi, played by Kader Khan, to become one of his enemies. Durga becomes pregnant and delivers a set of twins. Jaggi kidnaps one of the babies and sells the child to an illegal liquor dealer named Pascal. Durga is grief-stricken when she discovers that her son has been taken and her husband abandons her. Durga struggles to raise her remaining son, Kishan, played by Shashi Kapoor, on her own. Kishan eventually grows up to become a law enforcement officer. Pascal, meanwhile, has raised Durga's son, Amit, played by Amitabh Bachchan, forcing him into a life of crime and alcoholism from an early age. Conflict arises between Amit and Kishan, but the brothers come to resolve their issues and develop a friendly relationship with one another. Their father, Vikram, is still living as well, but does not know that his family survived. Vikram disguises himself and orders Amit to murder his brother during a dance at a nearby temple. Amit alerts Kishan to the plot, and the two men notify their fellow police officers, who stand guard together at the temple. A fight erupts and the group is ambushed. Kishan loses his vision in the confrontation and the condition may leave him permanently blind. Amit is then responsible for working to track down the criminal who attacked his brother. Suhaag was distributed by Sharma Cine Associates. The film runs for 169 minutes.
